Orders placed Friday afternoon after 2:00pm Pacific Time and over the weekend will ship Monday at the earliest, assuming no UPS or Postal Service holidays.
Shipping cost is based on size, weight and the dollar total of your order. Select the shipping method that best fits your budget and the day you need your items. All overnight orders must be received by 12:00pm Pacific Time for the order to be shipped that day.
If your order is over $300, you may be required to sign for it.
Free Economy Shipping* is only available within the contiguous United States.
*Oversized items or exceptionally heavy items may not qualify for free shipping or may require an additional shipping charge for air or priority shipments. You will be contacted prior to shipping these items and will never incur an additional charge without your approval.
Free Economy Shipping may ship using any of the following methods: UPS Ground, UPS SurePost** , USPS Priority Mail or USPS First Class Mail. Backcountry Gear will choose the service based on order value, weight and package size. If any of these services are not acceptable for your delivery please select another shipping method. Please note that shipping times provided are estimates only and ground shipments may be delayed due to inclement weather or large shipping volumes at carrier hubs. If you require your items to arrive by a certain day, please choose an air shipping service.
If some of the items on your order are in stock and others are backordered, we will ship the in-stock items right away with Free Economy Shipping if your order total is over $120. The backordered items will then be shipped separately when they arrive at our warehouse.
US Postal Service Shipping
When you choose the "US Postal Service" shipping option, your order will be sent out with either USPS Priority Mail or USPS First Class shipping, based on the size, weight, and dollar value of your order.
UPS Ground is only available within the contiguous United States. UPS Ground delivery dates are estimates only and are not guaranteed. Please note that UPS Ground does not deliver to P.O. boxes. We generally ship packages without signature required unless expressly requested by the customer. If you wish to require a signature, please leave a note in the comments section when ordering.
The number of days listed for delivery is based on UPS business days. UPS does NOT consider Saturday, Sunday or official UPS holidays as a business day. i.e. If you place an order on Thursday and select Ground shipping with an estimated 4 day delivery, that package is estimated to arrive on the following Wednesday (Assuming no UPS holidays). Please note that shipping times provided are estimates only and ground shipments may be delayed due to inclement weather or large shipping volumes at UPS hubs. If you require your items to arrive by a certain day, please choose an air shipping service.
UPS Next Day Air service is not available in all areas. UPS Next Day Air orders shipping Friday will typically arrive Monday. UPS Next Day Air shipments leaving Monday will arrive on Tuesday, UPS 2nd Day on Wednesday, and UPS 3 Day Select on Thursday, assuming no UPS holidays or delays due to inclement weather.
UPS Next Day Air deliveries are sent via UPS Next Day Air Saver service. Delivery is made by the end of day, there is no guaranteed time of day for the delivery.
UPS does NOT consider the shipping day as day one of time in transit. UPS does not deliver shipments on Saturday and Sunday. UPS 3 Day Select is not considered an Air Shipment.
*Alaska & Hawaii Customers: Free Economy Shipping shipping rates do NOT apply to customers in Alaska or Hawaii. We recommend using the US Postal Service option for shipping to Alaska and Hawaii.
**UPS SurePost utilizes the U.S. Postal Service for final delivery for residential customers. UPS SurePost reaches every U.S. address, including P.O. boxes and military APO, FPO and DPO destinations.
International shipping rates vary significantly based on weight and destination.
We ship all international packages through The United States Postal Service (USPS) Express Mail International. We can only ship to the physical address of a home or business. We can NOT ship to Post Office boxes (P.O. Box). We have found USPS to be quick, secure and cost effective. The US Postal Service generally approximates between 5 and 10 business days shipping time.
All international orders are subject to applicable customs duties and associated assessments and fees. These fees may include Import Duties, Value Added Taxes (VAT) and Customs Clearance Fees. These costs are entirely the responsibility of the purchaser. The shipping charge by backcountrygear.com does NOT include any of these fees. You will normally be charged the Customs fees by the company that delivers the package at the time of delivery.
Please note, returns are taking longer than normal to process since most of our office staff is working from home due to COVID-19 precautions. Please contact customer service if you have questions about your return.
As long as you return the item unused, clean, and smelling new, we will accept returns within 60 days of purchase and we will gladly exchange, credit or refund the cost of the item. Products must be returned with all original tags and/or packaging for a full refund.
For all returns not relating to warranty, you will be responsible for the cost of the return shipping charges. Please note that items smelling of cigarette smoke are not considered resalable and are not eligible for a full refund.

To protect our customers, hydration packs may only be returned if they have never been filled and the protective mouthpiece cover has not been removed. Bottles and liquid containers may not be returned.
We do not accept returns or exchanges on the Outdoor Research Face Mask Kit, Essential Midweight Ubertube Kit, Essential Bandana Kit, or Face Mask Filters.
If a product fails due to a manufacturer's error, the manufacturer's warranty will apply. Contact us and we will help you get your gear returned to the manufacturer for repair.
Climbing Equipment Return Policy
For liability reasons and your personal safety, we cannot accept returns on any climbing hardware, ropes or slings at any time (excluding warranty situations or shipping errors). Please be absolutely sure of the items you are purchasing before submitting your order. Backcountry Gear will only accept returns on harnesses and shoes if tried on but never used. If you tie in, it's yours. Helmets may also be exchanged for fit and sizing. Helmets, harnesses, and shoes must be returned in new condition with all tags and packaging. In the case of gifts, if there is any doubt, we recommend a gift certificate instead of purchasing climbing equipment.
