- Thanks for the question Gary. How long this pre-filter lasts really depends on the typical water quality and frequency of use. If you regularly pre-filter silty water, then it's probably only going to make it through a season. You can clean them out with fresh water and a toothbrush to add some life to the cartridge, but you'll know when it's time to replace it...your Nalgene will be painfully slow to fill.
