They are the perfect shoes for expeditions in the Himalayas, Pamirs, Andes and Arctic regions. The expedition boots are made up of an outer shell, a removable liner and an integrated gaiter. Scarpa's stated aim is to provide warm feet, low weight and a high level of comfort. The outer shell with fast lacing is waterproof and constructed from different layers: water-repellent microfibre, insulating felt, aluminium for optimal warmth insulation, cork and EVA foam.
The Sock-fit construction offers a particularly comfortable fit. The Altitude 8000 liner is also constructed from layers for maximum thermal insulation: elastic outer material, high density EVA foam, felt, aluminium, Aerogel inserts and PrimaLoft insulation. This prevents frostbite and during the night the liner can simply be packed into your sleeping bag.
The integrated, waterproof gaiter is the outermost layer that encloses the entire shoe, providing additional insulation and ensuring that no snow can penetrate. It can be opened with a waterproof zip. The Vibram 0 Gravity Lite outsole provides optimum grip and is fully crampon-compatible. The Carbon Tech insole is made of a comfortable EVA layer and insulating aerogel and carbon fibres that are low-torsion, stable and very light at the same time. A removable insole provides thermal insulation and reflective elements round off the Phantom 8000 HD.
