Western Mountaineering - Ponderosa MF

If you're on the larger side, or you just don't like being stuffed into a narrow mummy bag, the Western Mountaineering Ponderosa MF is the way to go. Sporting 67 inches of girth at the shoulder and 48 inches at the foot, the Ponderosa offers acres of comfort for a full three seasons; depending on your size, you can enjoy this sleeping bag down to 15º F (the bigger you are, the warmer it will feel). The Ponderosa MF zips to any Western Mountaineering mummy bag, and if the nights are really mild, unzip the bag around the foot and mate it with their Summer Coupler. The Ponderosa is also available in a 7' length.
Like all of Western Mountaineering's bags, the Ponderosa MF is made by hand in San Jose, California. Their down is sourced from free-range mother geese who are never live-plucked or force-fed.

Product Reviews

Excellent bag; useful as a home quilt
It is pricey but this is a superb, reliable bag that is useful as a lightweight extra quilt at home when it's cold inside. (I regularly use a WM quilt; excellent.) I wish there was another solution to the neck drawcord which often proves annoying but that's somewhat minor. Review by Bruce C.
Great Bag
This is my second WM bag I've bought. The first one is still in great shape after 12 years. I expect the same for this one. I bought the Ponderosa to go with the Summer Coupler as a double bag for me and my wife...and there is still room for our medium sized dog to fit. It's a great alternative to the smaller 2 person designs made by other companies. Review by Scott M
A little pricy but I love this bag.
This is an awesome sleeping bag. I know its a bit overkill but it offers a lot of versatility. In colder temperatures I am alway comfortable with it zipped up. In summer we often use it with the summer coupler and it makes a great couples sleeping bag. The kids always want to take it for sleepovers but it way too nice to let them have it.

Zippers have always been smooth, and stiffener does limit zipper snags. The fabric although lightweight has held up to some years of abuse. This is my favorite bag. Review by Mike
A good semi-rectangular
I did not buy for mountaining climbing, but hobby camping with a tent and sleeping pad. I was looking for something other than a mummy bag for extra leg movement, and this is just right. It's not a rectangle, but semi, so closer to mummy. Also, I wanted something with high loft that would stay warm. This bag can hold the heat. I got the long, even though I am under 6', so I can cover my head and face. It's light weight and well-stitched. It has two zippers, side and foot. The foot can be opened to let out a little heat. Two bags could be zipped together, but with feet of two sleepers closer together than a pure rectangle. This is not the first Western Mountaineering bag I bought. The earlier purchasers are lighter weight, and I wanted something for colder weather. Review by Royce
