Questions on UCO Candle Lantern
- From Dor at 12/12/11 8:40 PM
- Does it come with any candles? What size candle fits in the lantern?
- Thanks for the question. Yes, this lantern comes with one candle. One candle usually lasts about nine hours. It uses UCO specific candles (about 1" around and 4" long) that come in 3-packs. We sell the candles on our website, but they're commonly sold in most outdoor stores (they sell them at my local Bi-Mart).

- If I burn this lantern inside of a sealed tent, will the fumes be dangerous? If not, why?
- Thank you for the question. It's not particularly dangerous to use a candle lantern (besides the minor fire risk), but it's not great for you either. You'll breathe in the soot and more CO2 than usual which can irritate your lungs.
When propane/butane is burned quite a bit of carbon monoxide is released (toxic) and can quickly build up inside a closed space. A single candle puts out very little heat, and relatively small quantities of CO and CO2 as compared to, say, a canister stove.
If you're worried about air quality, your best bet is to just keep the door cracked a little. It doesn't take much of a breeze to keep the air fresh. Thanks! - Do you find this question helpful? Yes No

Price Value Quality If it wasn't for my search for lightweight portable lighting, I might never have found these. To make it better, they are from right next door to where I live. Lots of great outdoor gear Made in the USA right here in the Pacific Northwest. The UCO lantern is awesome! I'm buying another so I can light my whole campsite gently with just two candles. At the same time, I can carry one with me to the restroom when it's dark and still have my campsite lit. In cooler weather it will be nice to have inside the tent to read by and create a little warmth before I turn in as well. Much more compact than a gas lantern, and no waste to dispose of after the candle is done. Well worth the money. Good for home emergency lighting as well.
