Quick Overview
Ultralight insulation- Description
-
Looking for a lightweight down jacket with a little more water resistance? Western Mountaineering's Flash XR series jackets may be the perfect solution. They have added zippered closures to the pockets, a hood adjustment strap, and used an exclusive new lightweight laminated shell fabric which provides an added measure of protection against moisture. The average weight of these jackets is only 11 ounces, yet it has a breathable water resistant shell fabric for better performance and a bit more durability. Zippered pockets have insulation on both sides and protective covers to keep water out when the pockets are closed. A small strap conveniently located behind the hood allows for easy fit adjustment and brings it closer to your head so that it won't block your line of sight each time you peer left or right.

- perfect down jacket for an oregon winter Review by AgainstTheWild
-
Quality Price Value Love the insulating power of down; however, due to living in Oregon was worried about getting it wet. The Flash XR is perfect for wet winters because of the adaptations made by Western Mountaineering. Made with a water resistant "XR" pertex shell jacket protects from rain/snow/sleet (to an extent) more than your average down jacket would. WM also added zippers to the pockets making it easier to store small items and defend against water penetration. One thing that is rather awkward about the jacket is the pocket placement; however, it doesn't ruin my day. Whats nice about the jacket is it's very lightweight, has a high insulation power, compressible and easy to pack and great to wear when on belay, at camp, or around town. Highly recommended to survive a wet and cold winter.
