The smallest, lightest SteriPEN®, the AdventurerOpti, uses a revolutionary optical eye to sense the water. The patent-pending technology ensures safe use and provides purification in even the coldest of waters. The new optical sensor doubles as a convenient LED flashlight. It’s a great backup light when camping or taking a night-time walk to refill your water bottle. The Flashlight mode is activated by pressing and holding the single button down for 3 seconds. The clear lamp cover focuses the LED light. The AdventurerOpti retail package includes 2 non-rechargeable (disposable) CR123 batteries and a neoprene case with belt loop. Device works with containers with minimum 1.75 in. diameter opening (ie Nalgene wide-mouth bottles).

Quality Price Value Me and my buddy used this to purify water for a 2 month long hiking trip. Worked super well, super fast, and is really easy to use.
One issue - felt weird taking batteries into the backcountry! We were able to plan out when we would need a change of batteries, and never ran out of them, but it was a weird feeling all the same. The CR123 batteries that it uses are a lot easier to find than we expected, but they are not as easy to find as AA or AAAs.(Posted on 3/1/12)
