2001 Model Tent Features for Sierra Designs
AC Poles
Sierra's new Ultra Light Year CD tent utilizes poles made with Easton UltraLite'" AC (aluminum carbon), exclusive to Sierra Designs. Sierra worked with Easton to create these poles, which bond an aerospace carbon fiber to an Easton 7075 aluminum core tube, giving them a greater strength-to-weight ratio than traditional aluminum alloy poles. These poles are 30% lighter than standard Easton tubing and are fitted with lightweight natural rubber shockcord and abrasion-resistant Delrin tips. With UltraLite AC poles they use Kevlar pole connectors that are engineered with continuously variable stiffness to optimize joint strength.

DAC Featherlite Poles
Stronger architecture, less weight. This season Sierra Designs is using DAC Featherlite poles on even more of their tents. Including a new diameter, 9.35 mm. These lightweight aluminum poles enhance any tent's strength-to-weight ratio. A unique, structurally sound pole section connection dramatically reduces pole weight and eliminates the insert. All of Sierra's 4-season tents feature the new 9.35 mm Featherlite poles; seven 3-season tents feature 8.84 mm Featherlites.

Taped Seams
Sierra Designs tapes the seams of all their tents flys, floors and windows for extra protection against moisture-so you don't have to worry about seam sealing.

Structural Design Features

Cam-Loc
The patent-pending Cam-Locâ„¢ featured on the Clip Flashlight CD and Clip 3 CD, lock several points of suspension to the poles, creating the strongest two-pole tents in the world. In wind tunnel testing this added 12% more strength to the existing architecture. The Cam-Loc is designed to work as a Swift Clip when it's not engaged, but with a simple turn of the key you add extra strength to your tent. Made with Acetal, it can withstand extreme temperatures and pressures and weighs only 0.15 oz. more than a Swift Clip.

Clip-Locs'
Sierra Designs patented Clip-Locs dynamically lock the point of intersection between poles, improving tent strength up to 60%, with no added weight.

InterLocs.
On Sierra's 4-season and Convertible tents, InterLocs attach the fly-sheet to the tent canopy at each guy point to create one integrated guy system. When the InterLoc is engaged, stress is distributed throughout the tent's entire structure, not just the rainfly, giving you unprecedented stability and load distribution in heavy weather.

Jakes Corner
Found on all 4 Season tents in 2001 is Jake's Corner, a fully-removable structural element that strengthens and supports the long pole arches eliminating rotation of these poles at their tips. Jake's Corner is a patent-pending innovation, available only from Sierra Designs.

Rear Support Pole
Two new 3-season tents, the Orion AST and the Orion 3 AST, are strengthened by employing a unique arch-supporting rear pole that braces the tent low to the ground.

Arch Support Technology (AST)
The strongest tents just got stronger. This season, Sierra Designs changes tent design forever by introducing Arch Support Technology (AST), a revolutionary new way to increase a tent's ability to withstand high winds without adding heavy structural support. High winds cause the poles to pivot on their tips forcing them to the ground and collapsing the tent. AST braces the tent poles low to the ground, making pole rotation impossible. Wind tunnel measured, AST increases a tent's strength by at least 40%. A simple, elegant, dependable engineering breakthrough. Just what you've come to expect from Sierra Designs.

Ease of use Design Features

Stash Door
The old drop door versus d-door argument is history. The patent pending Stash Door is an intelligent new design for a tent door. It's faster and easier to open and can be quickly tucked out of the way where it stays clean, dry, and accessible.

Available this season on twelve of Sierra's tents, the Stash Door is mounted on a circular zipper track that allows weary, wet trekkers to open their tent door easily and then stash it in an internally mounted mesh pocket - off the ground and out of the way, but right where it's needed. Simple, fast, and easy. Four-season tents have an additional pocket on the mesh door to store the canopy door.

Sol-Air Ceiling
Sierra's patent pending Sol-Air Ceiling provides the best tent ventilation on the market today. It allows for high-point venting of moisture or hot air through a large central opening, which you can use while the rainfly is still on. The Sol-Air Ceiling also lets you stand up inside your tent and allows for unobstructed views of the stars. Available on the Nightwatch 2.0 CD and Look Out 2.0 CD.

Swift Clip
All of Sierra's tents utilize Swift Clips a Sierra Designs' invention that clips the tent body to the poles. They're lighter and easier to use than pole sleeves. They also allow you to stake the tent down first, and then erect it, making for faster set-up in high winds.

Color-Coded Webbing
Color-coded webbing, with high contrast colors, increases the speed of tent set up. Orange webbing for long poles are clipped first, followed by the shorter traverse poles with the grey webbing

Pole Tips
Locking Pole Tips, another Sierra Designs' innovation, help you set up your tent quickly by keeping your tent poles locked into the grommets in the stake loops.

Reflective Guy-Outs
Reflective guy-outs help you find your tent and its guy lines at night.

It's the small things that count.

ShoK-Certs
Patent pending ShoK-Certs provided with many of Sierra Designs Convertible tents, allow you to remove certain pole sections and leave unnecessary weight behind in mild weather conditions without losing the convenience of a fully shock-corded pole

Zipper Pulls
Sierra designs tents use a noiseless zipper pull that are lighter in weight than standard zipper pulls and allow quiet, uninterrupted nights. In addition, reflective zipper pulls are used on all flysheets.

Sierra Designs Fastpack Footprints.
Fastpack Footprint, available as an accessory for all Sierra tents, provides an "extra floor" made of durable 70 denier 3 oz. nylon taffeta that fits exactly beneath your tent to reduce wear and tear on your tent's floor. In addition, combined with your tent fly and poles, it lets you set up a basic shelter in mild weather and leave the extra weight of your tent body behind.

Stronger, Faster Stake Pullouts.
Sierra redesigned our stake pullouts this season to make them more durable and make the fly easier to secure. By widening the base of the pullout, which is sewn to the tent, and triple-stitching it with double-strength thread, the stake pullouts are now stronger than ever. They also reconfigured the fly attachment buckles to make set up easier and faster.
