2002 MSR Tents

In 1973, the Model 9 stove wasn't the only thing MSR was hard at work manufacturing. Would you be surprised to learn that the company introduced its first tent that year, too? The Mountain Tent as it was called, was used for years by expeditions and search and rescue operations all over the world in remote, punishing environments. A lot has happened in 29 years, especially with the materials and technology available in the tent industry. It only seems natural then that MSR would apply its more than 30 years of expertise in making reliable, field-maintainable gear to designing a new generation of tents for serious outdoors people. The result is a new line of tents that are mighty and smart.

2002 MSR Tent Features

User Friendly Setup
MSR Tent poles are the same length or color-coded and threaded through continuous pole sleeves.

Dryer/Lighter Materials
MSR uses non-wicking materials throughout their tents. From the polyester rainfly to the DryTies, DryGuys, and stake loops, MSR tents prevent water weight gain during your trip and won't transport water into your tent.

World's First Field-Reparable Zipper
MSR's Patented ZipGate allows you to replace zipper sliders in the field.

DAC Featherlite Poles
Made of super strong extruded aluminum, MSR's poles are up to 26% stronger and 16% lighter than other aluminum poles. There are no inserts, so less chance of breakage.

Reflective, Protected Doors and Vestibules
MSR Rainfly doors have zipper flaps to keep water out of the tent and are reflective for finding at night. Folding peak vents, guy- lines, water repellant zippers and zipper pulls are also reflective.

Adjustable Stake Loops
Ultimate adjustability. The ladder lock tensioner is backed up against failure by a second webbing loop, and the 4 season loops are large enough to accept skis.

Dryties
Faster, easier, dryer and lighter than toggle/ bungy systems. This glove-friendly design secures with one- overhand tie, single finger release. Won't absorb water like webbing

High/Low Venting System
Every MSR tent has a complete venting system designed to draw cool air in from the bottom of the fly and expel warm, moist air from the top.

Interior Pockets, Gear Lofts, and Utility Loops
Keep your house organized and gear accessible. Mesh vestibule pockets also keep wet gear outside the tent and off the ground.

Strong Compresssion Tension Design
Unique pole design works like a spring against the rainfly. Fully tensioned, double-crossed poles are naturally arched to evenly distribute pressure created by strong winds or heavy snows for a safe and quiet sleep.

DryGuy System
Won't wick, freeze or hold water like webbing guy-outs. It's reflective for finding at night and glove friendly. Allows for fast emergency set-up with a single 10mm climbing rope.

Polyester Rainflys
Won't absorb water, sag, or weaken with exposure to water like nylon. Polyester is more UV resis- tant and 10% stronger than nylon when exposed to moisture.

DryGuy System
Won't wick, freeze or hold water like webbing guy-outs. It's reflective for finding at night and glove friendly. Allows for fast emergency set-up with a single 10mm climbing rope.

Ultimate Livability
"Shaped by nature" geometry, where poles double cross by attaching on the same side (instead of the traditional "X") for vaulted ceilings with lots of headroom and more usable floor space.

Performance Coatings and Fabrics
Catenary cut fabrics are strong, weigh less, keep the tent taut and prevent canopy touchback. For ultimate waterproofness, floors have the highest coatings.

RapidRoll Tent Bag
Generously sized and easy to use - just pile tent on tarp roll, and compress. Designed like a climbing rope bag with side loading for quick, easy packing. Tarp is great for other uses, too.
