Since 1952, Kelty has been dreaming of a new and better way to backpack. Dick Kelty wasn't satisfied with the Army issue packs everyone was using in the 50's, so he set out to be the first to use aluminum frames in backpacks while his wife Nena made the packbags. Unknowingly, Dick created a category, and the base for an entire industry - a lighter, tougher, and more comfortable pack.

Backpacking as we know it has emerged from that first desire to make something good into something better. Today, Kelty still stands as a company not content with the status quo.
