Questions on 16 mm Nylon Sling
- From d fred at 3/22/12 10:44 AM
- would these be a viable option for constructing a cordelette out of? I'm looking for an easy anchor option that's lighter and less bulky than a 6mm cord, but the dmm drop test video made me nervous about choosing dyneema for the anchor
thoughts?
thanks! - Thanks for the question. The longest length 16 mm Nylon Slings we have are 240cm, so maybe not long enough to use as a traditional cordelette (the typical length is about 400cm). With regards to the drop test, a traditional cordelette is not used in such a way to re-create their test but it does bring up a good point: introducing knots greatly reduces the breaking strength, and that having any slack in a belay system is best avoided. I highly suggest contacting DMM directly with any technical question, as they're sure to have a precise answer for you. Thanks!

Nylon slings are the same strength as the thinner Dyneema slings however they provide more safety margin as there is physically more material, which makes them ideal for high friction rock areas and they're popular with instructors as they instill more confidence in beginners.
