Questions on Anti Balling Plates

Sort by Descending
  • From G Thorne at 6/12/12 12:50 PM
    • Are these anti-balling plates suitable as crampons for getting from carpark to ski lodge and the like?
    • Thank you for the question. The anti-balling plates are crampon accessories that snap onto an existing pair of crampons, they're not a standalone device.

For your purposes I suggest the Katoolah MICROspikes. They stretch to fit over your existing shoes or ski-boots and offer really impressive traction (much better than Yaktrax). I've included a link to the MICROspikes below. Thanks!

Climbing has inherent risks, but Backcountry Gear is your source for all the climbing gear to make it look easy. Whether staring up at El Cap or starting out on the gym’s rock wall, it's about having the best tools for the challenge. We can help you put together the most secure package for safety and protection with helmets, harnesses, ropes, biners, and more.

Sport climbers will find our climbing gear flush with a selection of biners and quickdraws from makers like Camp, DMM, and Wild Country suited for any top-roping or bolt route. Trad climbers will be happy with the wide variety of cams and nuts we keep on hand for those looking to tackle technical pitches unmarred by bolt holds. Even mountaineering climbers can rest assured we have the harnesses and helmets they'll need for team expeditions that require being roped together when traversing snowfields or clipping onto guide lines on the Via Ferrata.

These products have been engineered from the best materials by the most respected manufacturers in the outdoor industry. It's about safety at all times. Trust a hold with active pro cams that expand into cracks from Black Diamond's Camalot C4 family or leave worry out of the game with a passive pro nut sized just right to slide into your crag from makers like Metolius and Trango. Backcountry Gear ensures everything has been tested, from every sheath of rope to the bags that hold them, as well as markers and hooks. All you have to do is find the route.

If you have any questions about what product is best for your purposes, or if you have a concern about any of Backcountry Gear’s inventory, don’t hesitate to contact our customer support. We’re ready to answer questions and advise on your options. Knowing is half the battle, and it’s always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. We'll get you to the top! We're even there for when you fall with crash pads, harnesses, and helmets.
