Users must NOT put DEET containers inside this bear can. This warning is prominently displayed on the red label on the lid of each unit. The user's hands may have DEET on them, and the bug repellent container then outgasses DEET vapors which embrittle the polycarbonate housing. The signs of this are a splotchy, cloudy appearance on the inside of the unit, and severe cracking. b>
- It works, but it's pricey
- I used my bear vault on a back country trip in Alaska. There were several of us with the same vault and the general consensus was that it worked and it was nice that it was transparent. It's constructed well, but the lid can be difficult to get open if your hands are the least bit cold. The main drawback for me was the cost. It seems like something so simple could be manufactured for a little less money and that's why I gave it a 3 for value, however, we all decided that in the end, we will use the vault in the future and the cost is a distant memory.
- I have heard that these work great, but I would like to warn potential buyers that in the Adirondacks there are bears who have learned to open this brand of canisters
- Good Luck Bears
Fits enough food and snacks for two people. I bring this along every trip and keep everything in here. You can see through the canister which makes finding your food and snacks alot easier.
It secures tightly when the lid is on making it very difficult to get open. So you KNOW the bears are going to have a rough time...
Though I've never come in contact with bears yet I can tell you that its raccoon proof...
