The patented design of the Frontier Pro filter system includes the unique Cap Strap™ cap system to retain the cap and protect the patented Bite Me™ valve from contamination along with providing a sure grip on the filter that fits comfortably in your hand. The filter casings are constructed of high impact FDA-grade ABS plastic to assure long life even in harsh environments. The UQC (universal quick connect) allows connection to standard quick connect fittings, the draw tube provided with the system, any ¼” ID tubing such as hydration drink tubes, and 28mm threaded bottles such as Platypus® and other light weight flexible bottles. You will be amazed that a filter this small can do so much.
*Miraguard does not protect users against food-borne or disease-causing bacteria, viruses, germs or other disease-causing organisms.
Questions & Answers
Thank you for your inquiry.
The Aquamira Frontier Pro is a neat little device. Unlike most purifiers, which either work to transfer dirty water from a source into your water bottle or treat the full contents of your water bottle before drinking, the Frontier Pro essentially acts as a purifying straw, cleaning the water as you are drinking it. For some, this may be an advantage, and for some a disadvantage. For treating large quantities of water at once, perhaps for groups, this would be an inefficient treatment method. But for personal or emergency use, this device is light, simple and easy to use.
The device works by sending water first through a replaceable pre-filter (think coffee filter) to get out all the larger pieces, and then through the main carbon based filter. The dirty water end features three adapters: one to attach to hydration hoses, one to screw into any 28mm thread cap (Platypus Soft Bottles, disposable water bottles), and a straw attachment that allows you to drink straight from a water source. The clean water end features a drinking valve to drink from.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Frontier Pro only filters down to 3 microns. This means it does not filter out certain bacteria and viruses. This is primarily relevant for someone looking to use this for international travel in counties with questionable water, where these type of bacteria and viruses are more likely to be present. For someone looking to use this in the backcountry, where Giardia and Cryoptosporidium are the primary concerns, this does a sufficient job of filtering out the stuff you need to worry about. However, it is recommended that this device be used in conjunction with water purification tablets, which will kill the remaining bacteria and viruses that device misses.
I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
